Hardware Review
Vizo Voyager 2
CPU’s, video cards are no longer the only PC parts that require proper cooling. Hard drives nowadays do produce a lot of heat inside a case, causing the ambient temperature inside the case to rise. To solve this issue, a cooling solution is needed for the hard drive as well. Tonight we’ll take a look at Vizo’s offering for an HD cooler, the Voyager 2. We would like to thank the Vizo team for making this review possible.
Vizo Technology Corporation specializes in computer peripherals, ranging from notebook coolers to external enclosures. Let’s take a look at the Voyager 2 further. The cooler is a single fan solution built on a full aluminum alloy frame. Any hardware that a fan is included, one must consider the acoustic output of the fan as well. The fan’s on the Voyager is at 60x60x10.8mm and is rated at 22.5 dBA with a maximum speed of 2900RPM. We really like the cooler’s compact frame and very simplistic design. Here are a few specs of Vizo's Voyager 2:
Dimensions : 90.0 x 101.6 x 15 mm
DC Fan Dimensions : 60 x 60 x 10.8 mm ( 1 pce )
Bearing Type : Sleeve Bearing
Speed : 2900 RPM
Noise Level : 22.5 dBA
Max Air Flow : 13 CFM
Rated Voltage : DC 12 V
Rated Current : 0.13 A
Compatibility : 3.5" Bay
Weight : 75 g
Installation is very straightforward. By just lining up your hard drive’s circuit board side and the mounting holes of the cooler, you can easily install the included screws that come included with the package. We tested our sample cooler on Western Digital 400GB SATA hard drive. To fully test the cooler’s effectiveness, we took temperature readings of the hard drive and the ambient case temperature when the Voyager 2 is installed and when it’s not.

After we let the PC run for about an hour with the Voyager 2 installed, the ambient temperature did drop to about 2 degrees and the hard drive at about 3 degrees. We can say for certainty that the cooler was doing its job. The acoustic noise of the fan was very minimal even at full speed.
We were very pleased with Voyager 2’s performance and silent cooling operation. From it’s aluminum frame and low acoustic fan, we can certainly recommend the Voyager 2 as a great add-on any hard drive. Overall we give the Vizo Voyager 2 a score of 8 out of 10 and our Unique Rigs recommendation. If you want to get more information on this product, please kindly visit Vizo's website.
