8-Port Gigabit GREENnet Switch

Who ever said that wired networking is dead? More and more PC users now have migrated to wireless networking as their network connection of choice. But there are still those hardcore hard wired users too. Hard wiring your network is still the best choice for performance and reliability. We'll be taking a look at Trendnet's 8-Port Gigabit GREENnet Switch. We would like to thank the Trendnet team for making this review possible.

The first thing you will notice with the TEG-S80G is that it is an Energy Star compliant device. Meaning that it uses less power with the GREENnet technology it utilizes. The outer casing of the TEG-S80G is made up of metal which helps the unit cool down. It also sports sixteen LEDs to show LAN connectivity through 100/1000Mbps as well as LAN activity. The back of the TEG-S80G consists of the eight ports as well as the power connector.

We also took a peek at the TEG-S80G's interior and found the Realtek chip the switch uses on its main board. Performance wise, the TEG-S80G performed reasonably well. We attached several computers on the switch as well as an IPTV receiver. We did not notice any lags at all during our testing. We run several network file transfers between our four computers and while our IPTV was streaming video from the web. Try doing that on your wireless network and we're sure you'll run into some slowdowns for sure.

Overall, we were very satisfied with the TEG-S80G performance over our network. Not only it was able to keep pace with the network demand during our testing, it also never bogged down. Trendnet is also marketing the TEG-S80G as an Energy Star device, which is a great bonus to save you on your electricity bills down the road. If you're looking to expand your wired network, give the TEG-S80G a look. We're giving the switch a score of 9 out of 10 and our recommendation.
